My previous launch in Wollongong may have been a bridge too far for some of you (even if the Seacliff bridge is world famous and features in many advertisements).
So now I’m thrilled to announce the SYDNEY launch of Louisa, my debut historical novel – an event you won’t want to miss! Join me for a vibrant celebration filled with engaging conversation, wonderful company, and a chance to immerse yourself in the story behind the pages.
Time & Location
15 Aug 2026,
3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Better Read Than Dead,
265 King St, Newtown
Louisa is set in late 1800s Sydney, yet for this event, I’m in conversation with CARMEL BENDON, author, academic and presenter on ‘all things medieval’. She has a PhD in Medieval Literature and a 1st Class Honours in Early English. I can highly recommend her novel Grasping at Water and her creative non-fiction The Mystics Who Came to Dinner both of which I have read, loved and learned heaps from.
Not only but also, Carmel is a good friend, supportive person, and fellow member of the Society Women Writers NSW. It’s sure to be a great chat under her warm guidance. I hope to see lots of eager faces in the audience.
Bookings are essential. Please use this link:

About The Book:
Discover the compelling journey of Louisa Whitley, a courageous woman who defied Victorian constraints to forge a new life in 19th-century Australia. From her daring departure alone on the emigrant ship Leicester Castle to the harsh realities of colonial life, Louisa’s story unfolds with resilience, passion, and unwavering hope.
Betrayal, heartbreak, and societal judgment shadow her steps, yet Louisa’s determination to claim independence – and her right to love – drives a story of courage and transformation.
I would love to be there in person, Gwen, but I’ll be there in spirit.
Thank you, Lavinia. I’ll stay alert to the aura 🙂 x Gwen
Gwen, enjoy the pleasurable results of all those long hours of writing and re-writing.
Thank you, Suzanne, and yes, many years of work. The follow up is also “done” (ish), but the back 20% needs a rewrite. xxx Gwen
Another exciting event!!
Thank you, Amanda. Still waiting to hear from the publisher about a Brisbane event. xxx Gwen
How marvelous Gwen. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Many thanks Marion. Maybe one day I’ll be in England with some copies. It begins up north in Bradford before she sets sail on the Leicester Castle. xx Gwen
How wonderful! I wish we could come and celebrate with you. We’ll have to make dovwith your blog. The accolades will keep coming in, sure of it. All the best.
Thank you so much. I am receiving heartwarming feedback from many who have read Louisa since the launch. xx Gwen
